Taweh Johnson, the Executive Director of Campaigners Against Misinfo and Disinfo in Liberia, attended the Harnessing the Digital Revolution: Fostering Resilience and Development in Africa Conference held in Lusaka, Zambia on November 8-9, 2023.
The conference was organized by Digital Communication Network and World Learning with funding from the Leaders Lead On-Demand Program, Office of Citizen Exchanges, U.S. State Department. Attendees at the conference included thought leaders, influencers, and digital professionals from 35 different African countries. Digital Communication Network Africa(DCN Africa) was launched at the conference. DCN Global is a collaborative network working across borders, sectors, and generations to track digital trends, amplify credible voices, foster digitally responsible citizens, and build resilient communities able to thrive in the digital world.
According to Taweh Johnson, Executive Director of Campaigners Against Misinformation and Disinformation, the conference was an opportunity to share the initiatives of the organization with other Africans and engage and discuss with African Professionals how to address online Misinformation and Disinformation in Africa. Taweh Johnson also thanked DCN Global, World Learning, and the U.S. State Department for the conference looking
forward to the initiatives of DCN Africa.
Dr. Nikos Panagiotou, President of Digital Communication Network Global, officially launched the DCN Africa. According to Dr. Panagiotou, DCN Global values responsible engagement and citizens who want to make a change because this is how DCN Global can address major challenges that undermine democratic values.
Making the Closing Remarks virtually, Dawnjalice Brown, Chief of Emerging Voices Branch, Global Leaders Division, U.S. Department of State, said the United States is committed to partnering with African governments, businesses, and entrepreneurs to build and adapt the infrastructure that enables connectivity. Madam Brown said the U.S. State Department looks forward to supporting DCN growth throughout Sub-Saharan Africa.
