Campaigners Against Misinformation and Disinformation, a local non-profit improving community resilience to false information in Liberia, on Friday conducted a Media Literacy Awareness at Len Millar High School and William V.S. Tubman School in Monrovia.
The Media Literacy Awareness is in observance of the 2024 Global Media and Information Literacy Week. Over 150 12th Grade students were present during the awareness.
The annual Global Media and Information Literacy Week takes place from 24th to 31st October, aiming to increase awareness and advancements made in Media and Information Literacy for everyone.
UNESCO co-hosts a global conference with a Member State that brings together the media and information literacy community, and stakeholders from all over the world plan events throughout Global Media and Information Literacy Week.
False information undermines peace, democracy, and development in Liberia. Furthermore, false information causes citizens to make wrong decisions.
According to CAMDL Executive Director, Taweh Johnson, the Media Literacy Awareness isCAMDL’s way of creating awareness on the danger of false information in Liberia and how students can verify online and offline information before sharing it.
The students appreciated the organization for the timely awareness and assured CAMDL that they will become responsible promoters of factual information in Liberia going forward.
The organization’s vision is to make citizens responsible promoters of reliable and credible information in Liberia.
