CAMDL hosted Election Misinfo and Disinfo Training for Journalists.

Campaigners Against Misinformation and Disinformation, a local nonprofit in
Liberia, hosted Election Misinfo and Disinfo Prevention and Response Training for Journalists on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Sinkor Palace in Congo Town, Monrovia, Liberia.

Fourteen (14) out of sixteen (16) Journalists were at the training representing Media Institutions in Montserrado, Margibi, and Rivercess Counties. According to Taweh Johnson, Executive Director of Campaigners against Misinfo and Disinfo in Liberia, the training was intended to equip Journalists with the relevant skills to prevent the spread of misinformation and disinformation in Liberia before, during, and after the October 10, 2023 Polls

International Trainers along with local trainers passed on useful skills and
knowledge to Liberian Journalists in order to prevent the spread of misinformation and disinformation during the electoral period. Silas Jonathan, Fact-Checker at Dubawa, provided insight on Artificial intelligence and Disinformation. Armsfree Ajanaku, Nigerian Journalist, shared lessons learned during Nigeria’s 2023 Elections regarding Misinformation and Disinformation. Taweh Johnson, Executive Director of Campaigners Against Misinfo and Disinfo in Liberia, taught the Journalists practical ways to prevent and respond to Election Misinformation and Disinformation.

Sade Tuckett, Public Diplomacy Officer at the United States Embassy in Monrovia, said that this is sound information for Journalists and it is exactly what the United States Embassy in Monrovia wants to hear about because Journalists are the first point of contact for the public.

The Journalists commended Campaigners Against Misinfo and Disinfo for such timely training and promised to use the skills and knowledge to prevent the spread of misinformation and disinformation during the electoral period and beyond. Representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, the National Elections Commission, and UNDP Liberia made remarks at the training.
